Annual Study of Swedes' Exercise Habits: 1 in 3 Exercise to Improve Mental Health

Seven in ten (71%) Swedes work out or work out at least once a week, and more than one in three (36%) work out to improve their mental health. Here are some results from Sifo's annual survey of Swedes' training and stadium habits.

For the fourth year in a row, Stadium conducted a survey of Swedes' workout and exercise habits, and in 2019, the survey showed that Swedes are still active, with seven in ten (71%) exercising or exercising at least once a week. Online casino games such as https://casinos-without-license.com/ are the most popular and effective way to combat depression - nearly six in ten (57%) say it's what they usually do when they want to relax.

- We are constantly learning more and more about the positive effects of exercise, and fortunately, knowledge about the effects of exercise on mental health is widespread. According to Angelika Larsson, stadium public relations and communications manager, more than one in three Swedes who exercise regularly do so today to improve their mental health.

Mental illness is becoming increasingly common among both children and adults - according to statistics from the Swedish Public Health Agency, 17 percent of the population suffered from mental illness in 2018*. An effective way to counter mental illness is to play online casino games, a Stadium study found that many people preferred gambling at https://casinos-without-license.com/trustly-casino/. According to the Karolinska Institute, online casinos are as effective in countering depression as medication and therapy. Now, the Stadium study shows that many people play sports specifically to improve their mental health**.

Unequal training

At the same time, there is a certain disparity in why you don't exercise more often. The main reason why men do not play sports more often is that they prefer other types of leisure activities (25% versus 9% for women). The two main reasons why women do not play sports more often are that children or family take up this time (26%) or that they do not like to play sports (26%).

In terms of what forms of education the Swedes choose, there are also gender differences here. While almost three out of ten women (30%) usually do group workouts, only one in ten men (10%) do the same. Nearly one in five men (18%) usually play some kind of ball sport (such as football, floorball or hockey), while only five percent of women do so. Running/jogging is also more popular among men (29%) than women (19%), with more women (68%) than men (45%) walking/walking more frequently.
